Ducktales, Dinoflagellates, and Drafting

I’m sure most of you have seen this already, but I just realized that I hadn’t posted my most recent video here yet… So for all you Disney Afternoon fans, here is the Ducktales theme song on piano. I’m amazed that after all these years, Ducktales is still an enjoyable show (we’ve got all of them on DVD and still watch episodes from time to time):

The last couple weeks were pretty packed. Last weekend, Theresa invited a bunch of us to go kayaking on the ocean to see the bioluminescent dinoflagellates. If you’ve never had the chance to see a bioluminescent bay, I can’t recommend it enough… it was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Dinoflagellates are single celled organisms living in the sea that collect sunlight during the day and emit a green-blue glow at night in response to movement. Prior to this trip, I’d only ever seen them in the wet sand near Marin (which is also pretty fantastic… when you rub your hand in the sand, you trigger a bunch of tiny green sparkles). But in the water, it’s a whole new experience. The water basically looks like a bunch of bright green fireworks going off wherever there is movement; whether it’s from your hand, the oar, or even a fish swimming by. Our guides actually ended up getting us a bit lost (by a “bit” I mean we had to paddle an extra couple hours in the foggy darkness to get back to land… it was kind of scary, but knowing we made it back safe and sound, it was totally worth it).

The day before that, we hit up the Innistrad pre-release. George and I ended up playing in both the sealed and draft events, trying out the flip-cards, getting noodles and tea, and even signing a few Grave Brambles. A couple days prior, Mark Rosewater told us that Grave Bramble is actually a shout-out to Plants vs. Zombies, which is pretty awesome. Besides Magic, kayaking, and work, I’ve also picked up WoW again… this time in an all-girl Blood Elf party. As silly as it sounds, it was fun going to Undercity to get our hair done even though we hadn’t even started the Eversong Woods quests yet.

  1. Hey, I saw Maro’s tweets about the Grave Bramble, which is pretty cool. Would you and George be up for doing a cube draft sometime? We have them at Google sometimes but we usually only get 4-6 people so we could definitely use some guests.🙂
