♫ Plants vs. Zombies Official Soundtrack now online ♫
November 22, 2010 at 1:28 am | Posted in Video Games | 73 CommentsTags: digger zombie, george fan, plants vs zombies, soundtrack, video games
After almost 2 years, I can finally announce that the official Plants vs. Zombies soundtrack is now online ^_^ If you’d like to help out, please help spread the news! And thank-you so much to everyone who has been supportive of my music… you are all so awesome.
George was kind enough to draw this wonderful cover art… I thought it would be cool if the Sunflower decided to teach music lessons and Digger Zombie joined the class, too (he has a softer side you know, if you couldn’t tell from his penchant for pink tricycles).

Seems I managed to notice & buy it before you got the post out! Woop woop. This is going to get a lot of listens starting … now!
Comment by Atreus— November 22, 2010 #
Yes, you were super quick! Thank-you for all your support Atreus, it means a lot to me!

The silver lining of having to wait almost 2 years is that you can discover cool new technologies (like Bandcamp). After Alec told me about it, and you and a few other friends talked about how cool it was, I ended up checking it out and I’m so glad I did… it made putting out this album so much nicer!
Comment by shigi— November 22, 2010 #

Very big congratulations to you, Laura! I know it’s been quite awhile since my last comments to you, but remember we’re still here to support you! I will probably grab this soundtrack soon, also kudos to George for a pretty awesome cover art! Take care Laura, and once again, thank you for all the hard work and effort you’ve done, thank you so much and God bless!
Comment by Stephen— November 22, 2010 #
Thanks Stephen ^_^ Your support means a lot to me, and I’m really glad that you like George’s cover art! I hope you’re doing well!

Comment by Orkchop— November 22, 2010 #
Thank-you Orkchop! Oh, and “Okrchop” is a really cool screen name XD
Comment by shigi— November 22, 2010 #
Awesome soundtrack! Thanks so much Laura, your persistent efforts have truly payed off! ^^
However, just a quick comment: Anyone else notice the crackling at the beginning of Crazy Dave (Intro Theme)? Hope it’s not just me!
Comment by Ross— November 22, 2010 #
Thanks Ross! I’m so happy it worked out in the end… I was afraid for a while that despite being persistent nothing would ever happen! And you are right, there is a crackling noise at the beginning of the Crazy Dave (Intro Theme)… it’s a static SFX which I put in to create more of a weird/old fashioned record feeling. It was taken out of the in-game version though.
Comment by shigi— November 22, 2010 #
Ohmygoodnesssoexcited. It’s downloading as I type! I waited to get home all day for this! Can’t wait to listen to it! Thank you for all your hard work and perseverance in obtaining permission for this!
Comment by Solcade— November 22, 2010 #
Hehe, thank-you Solcade! I’m so happy to know that folks are still interested in the music even though the game came out almost 2 years ago… I really appreciate your support and I hope you enjoy the album!

This soundtrack is nothing short of fantastic.
Comment by Piccolo— November 22, 2010 #
Thanks Piccolo, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Wow, congratulations on finally getting it out! I’m so glad you finally managed to get permission to do it. It’s great that you included a couple different versions as well. Out of curiosity though – while I can understand the need to edit to make things dynamic, why the lower sample quality for in-game?
Awesome job regardless!
Comment by kreyg— November 22, 2010 #
Thank-you kreyg! The lower sample quality was because we were trying to make sure the music took up as little space as possible (the music was modded for in-game use so we tried to keep the soundbank very small).
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Yaaay – that is very good news indeed. But before I buy I have a question: Do you have any plans of releasing the soundtrack on iTunes as well?
All the best from Germany
Comment by Froschi— November 23, 2010 #
Hi Froschi! As of right now, I don’t have plans to release the soundtrack on iTunes (not because I don’t necessarily want to, but because getting a license is kind of difficult/uncertain these days and if you are able to get one, it usually takes a really long time from what I’ve heard).
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Hello Shigi,
thank you the for info. I don’t have any first-hand experiences on that matter, but a friend of mine used http://www.tunecore.com for releasing his album on iTunes and Amazon. He said it was a piece of cake. Might be worth a try.
Anyway, the soundtrack is awesome – this is definitely money very well spent. Keep up the amazing work!
Comment by Froschi— December 2, 2010 #
it will be cool if released on iTunes 🙂
Comment by keito— November 23, 2010 #
It would be cool, unfortunately I’ve heard it’s pretty difficult to get a license nowadays. I think if I release another singer-songwriter album though we’ll probably try to get it on iTunes. I have to say though, Bandcamp is so nice and convenient! I’d recommend it to any indie musicians ^_^
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Bought it instantly, loved the music from Plants vs Zombies. Though i wish there were dedicated “Horde” music as well :). (The Watery Grave one was best)
Comment by ChJees— November 23, 2010 #
Thank-you, I’m really glad you enoyed the music! Actually, I made sure that there was a full horde loop on each of the in-game tracks (the in-game versions do a loop of calm, and then a loop of horde). Also, the Watery Graves (fast) track is basically the horde version (except all the transitions are smoother because it was written specifically to be a standalone track) ^_^
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
my first time and comment here 🙂
Just wanted to congratulate you on your talent and work, your game tracks are fantastic, reminding me of the great scores from the 8bit golden age, like Castlevania.
I will buy them when i get back home tonight!
congratulations, again, all the way down from Brazil 😉
Comment by Miguel Young— November 23, 2010 #
Thank-you for stopping by Miguel! And I really appreciate your compliment… I love so much of the music from the 8bit era ^_^
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Congratulations on your newest release! I’ll be looking into buying the soundtrack over the winter holidays. It would make a great complement to the copy of Plants vs. Zombies that I just bought on Halloween.
In the meanwhile, good luck with Melolune! I’ll be waiting for that.
PS: There appears to be a stray tab with no label at the top of the navigation menu. If you need help fixing it, contact me or ask George.
Comment by Dickson "GameDanna" Law— November 23, 2010 #
Thank-you, I really appreciate your support! Oh, about the tab: For some reason with WordPress blogs we’re unable to use our tabs to link to external sites, but there is something you can do with the code to make it work (unfortunately it doesn’t work on all browsers, which is why you’re probably seeing a stray tab… we’re still trying to figure out a solution for that) 😛
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Don’t know if you saw, but you made Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5697001/the-soundtrack-to-the-botanical-apocalypse
I wrote a #speakup about this, don’t know if they noticed that or found out by other means. Doesn’t really matter as it’s more publicity for this fantastic soundtarck!
Comment by JoetheArachnid— November 23, 2010 #
Wow, that is so awesome! And thank-you for writing a #speakup, that was really nice of you ^_^
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Awesome!, Congratulations, Laura! I hope to see a lot more CDs with your name on it coming out in the future!
Comment by aniki91344— November 23, 2010 #
Aww, thanks Chris! I hope I can keep making music, I’ll try best!
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
I bought the PVZ soundtrack last night and its great! Listening to all the tracks in order and having fun listening to it – right now its on Watery Graves IN-GAME as I type this 😀 Just changed to Ultimate Battle now lol.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks heaps again Laura, for composing the music and releasing this awesome soundtrack 🙂 Kudos (never used this word b4 🙂 to George and your Dad as well for being great zombies, if I had a spare brain, I’d gladly donate it! XD
Comment by Dean— November 23, 2010 #
Thank-you Dean! It makes me so happy to know that there are folks out there who like video game music. I’ll let George and my Dad know what you said too, I’m sure they’ll appreciate it! (I totally LOLed at the “spare brain” comment ^_^)
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Not sure if you’re aware of it yet, but Brent Kennedy’s put out a wonderful PvZ piano arrangement at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tab0Q_10O1Q 🙂
Comment by Atreus— November 23, 2010 #
Thank-you for the link! I got to watch it earlier and I agree that it is a very wonderful arrangement!
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
I’ve bought the FLAC version and the intro theme is full of cracks and noises 😦
Comment by Jorge Suárez de Lis— November 24, 2010 #
That’s actually a static sound effect 😛 I wanted the first part of the intro to sound like an old record player.
Comment by shigi— November 24, 2010 #
Later I realized that it was intentional. Sorry shigi. And congratulations for the release. I’ve been waiting for this for almost a year 🙂
The new versions of the songs are great. The japanese version of Zombies in your lawn is hilarious =)
Comment by Jorge Suárez de Lis— November 24, 2010 #
Bought this so fast it’s not even funny! I told all of my plants vs zombies fan friends to buy it. Hope they do! Keep up the stellar work Laura! Happy thanksgiving!
Comment by Josh— November 25, 2010 #
Thank-you Josh, Happy Thanksgiving to you too! And I really appreciate that you got the album and told your friends ^_^ I hope you enjoy it!
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Waw, I had lost hope in seeing this OST available one day.
Grats!
Comment by Ginko— November 26, 2010 #
I’ve gotta know: Is your name from Mushi-shi?
Comment by Atreus— November 26, 2010 #
You mean “supershigi”? Hehe… no no, it’s from my last name 😛 Shigihara –> shigi
The “super” part is from when I played Counterstrike for the first time with some friends, and we decided that we couldn’t go to dinner until I got a headshot. For the longest time I couldn’t do it… but then I joked and said, it’s because my screen name is just “shigi”… I need to change it to “supershigi”! And then I got a headshot and we could finally go eat dinner, hehe ^_^
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
While I appreciate the response and did enjoy it, I was actually asking Ginko 😛
Comment by Atreus— November 26, 2010 #
Oh oops! Haha, I guess that’s what happens when I respond to comments directly from the dashboard without looking at the thread to see who the response is aimed at 😛 My bad!
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Congratulations on the release, and Happy Thanksgiving, Laura! You deserve every penny!
Comment by Curtis— November 26, 2010 #
Thank-you Curtis, I’m so happy they finally let me do it ^_^ Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Whoops, forgot to log in 😛
A question about the music store – if I buy the album in one format, will I be able to download it again in another?
Comment by Curtis— November 27, 2010 #
I’ll be buying Plants vs Zombies for my DS since I like my Tower Defense on the go and on a proper gaming console.
Great soundtrack for the game. I’ll be buying it tonight once I’m home along with My Blue Dream+. This is why it’s always great to allow us to listen to full songs before buying!
Comment by EdEN— November 26, 2010 #
Aww, thank-you very much! I agree about the “listening to the full song” part… I don’t like services that cut the music off halfway (or right before it gets to the good parts).
Comment by shigi— November 26, 2010 #
Yesterday I spent my whole day at the office listening to the Plants vs Zombies Soundtrack and My Blue Dream+ as well as the Blood Elf Druid song. Got me thinking about Genki Rockets here and there which is always great in my book.
I’ve just bought the Plants vs Zombies soundtrack but for some reason it won’t let me buy My Blue Dream+. I’ll wait until later to buy the soundtrack for the RPG you’re creating since I hope you make ALL the tracks available for purchase (with extras!).
Keep up the great work!
Comment by EdEN— November 27, 2010 #
Your music is pure magic, pure fantasy. Every time I hear it, I think I’m in another world, be it defending my lawn or collecting song fragments. Thanks Laura, for your apport to the video game industry, thanks for your dedication to your followers, thanks for your hear-it-before-buy policy, but above all, thanks for making me happy every time I hear your music. You do much more than you imagine.
^__^
Comment by Jorjon— December 7, 2010 #
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the previews on your band camp webpage , so much so that I opted for the high quality FLAC purchase and download. Congratulations on this release, dancing Michael Jackson Zombie impersonator would be most proud!

OMG OMG OMG LAURA YOU ARE SOOOOOOOO AWESOME <3<3<3 THANK YOU SO MUCH :DDDDDDDD
you know, almost all my songs on my iPod I get a friend to hack for me so I don't have to pay money, but this deserves more respect than that… sorry my only token of gratitude to you is the fact that I'm not taking this illegally 😛
Comment by A. Nonny Mouse— January 2, 2011 #
